David Lee Hemsley

David Lee Hemsley of Dayton, NV, left this world all too soon on May 4, 2026 (very fitting for the avid Star Wars fan that he was!) while vacationing in one of his favorite places, Williamsburg, VA. He was the second oldest born to Glen and Arlene (Pulsipher) Hemsley on October 19, 1950 in Salzburg, Austria. After graduating from San Jose State University in 1977, he began his long career in software programming that was mostly civilian contract work for the government/military. This included NASA-Ames, Ford Aerospace, Kaiser Electronics/Permanente, IBM, and even his own software programming business. Some of his work can be found in the well known military plane F14-D Tomcat, (thanks to Tom Cruz in Top Gun!) the B-52, and the F-111, just to name a few. He even left an Air Force 5-Star general sick after testing his space shuttle simulator! He was devout in his Faith and was a regular at church most Sundays. He immensely enjoyed traveling near and far after retiring as well as catching a baseball game or two, as he even played and coached his sons in his younger years. His passion was his choir groups and was an excellent self-taught guitar player as well. He expanded his personal horizons by working on genealogy as well as studying Korean Martial Arts at Kuk Sool Wonowhere he achieved his yellow belt with the blue stripe. He also couldn’t turn down playing a game (or a few) of pinochle. In addition to his several career triumphs, his greatest accomplishments and legacy in life were his 8 children he had with his first wife, Donna (Hoover) Hemsley during their devoted 26 year marriage. He married his second wife, Glenda (Herman Johnson) in 2002 whom he deeply loved and adored. David is survived by his (2nd) wife, Glenda; brothers Larry, Steven, and Robert; sisters Levita and Janet; children Richard, Melody, Jill, Teresa, Ryan, Amy, and Darren; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and an extended family of many in-laws, nieces and nephews and their families. David is preceded in death by his son, Justin, Donna (1st) wife, brother, Ron, and parents, Glen and Arlene Hemsley. Your presence lingers, eternally cherished in the depths of all the hearts of those that had the honor of knowing you.
