Robert was the eldest of six children of John and Lena Theiss, born and raised in Germantown, OH After graduating from High school he enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 19. The Air Force sent him to Boston University to become a certified Aircraft Instrument Technician. Upon returning from the Korean War (at the age of 22) he was stationed in Knoxville, TN and maintained A-47 and A-86A aircraft instruments for the 469th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. There he received letters of accommodation from his commanders for his tireless efforts during the transition from prop aircraft to jet aircraft. It was in Knoxville, TN where he met and married his wife at the Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force he attended Gruen (Horological) Watchmaker Institute in Cincinnati, OH. Where he became a Certified Master Watchmaker. In 1956 they moved to San Diego, CA where he work for Ryan Aeronautical as an instrument mechanic until 1962. In 1963 he moved his family to Wisconsin to start his lifelong career in watchmaking. Portions of his career he was able to work in his shop from home so he could balance his love of gardening and raising his family. He continued to sing in his church choirs’ at every opportunity. In 1971 he moved his family to Nevada. He is best known in Carson City for his business “The Watch Shop” which he operated for many years. Eventually closing his business, he continued his 63 year career from home in his private shop. Robert is survived by his wife of 64 years, six children and their families. Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held, Thursday, September 12th, 2019 at 10am at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley Nevada. A Fellowship Reception will be held following the services at the Cemetery at the Brewery Arts Center Ballroom, from 12pm-3pm located at 449 W. King St., Carson City, Nevada.
