December 7, 1914 - July 22, 2013
Howard King was born on Dec 7th 1914 in Pittsburgh Penn. He was raised in a one room house with his brother and sister. He said he wasn’t sure how they survived because of the severe conditions. He went to school with 8 grades all in one room. He had an amazing memory for facts and could name all of his classmates even later in his life. His mother died when she was in her early 40’s. He met the love of his life Louise Henninger and they were married in 1934. Howard and Louise had their first child, Arlene in 1936. He entered the Navy and was specialized to weld and repair ships during WW-2 in Jacksonville Florida. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946 and nine months later their son Tom was born. Howard continued as an iron worker in Pittsburgh until Louise woke up one morning and said we were moving to Ca. So we packed up the Oldsmobile and moved across the country. Howard had no trouble getting a job as he was from the Steel City and many were anxious to hire him. The only problem was the freeways, sometimes not arriving home for hours after work. He ended his career with Kaiser Steel as a superintendent. When he retired he said he never had another day off again. Howard was suddenly struck with Macular Degeneration shortly after Louise passed away in 1995. Because of the loss of sight his activities were severely limited for the balance of his life. Howard passed away at the age of 98, July 22, 2013. He will be reunited with his love Louise and will be laid to rest next to her at Rose Hills Cemetery. I am sure he will finally be able to see clearly in heaven. He is survived by his daughter Arlene, his son Tom his daughter in law Annette, grandchildren Tracy and Mike, Kirsten and Shana and his great grandchildren Shelby, Kalee, Alana, Haley and Olive. He was a great Husband, Father, provider and friend and he will be missed by all who knew him.
